Shared Lines: Kaikōura Arts Festival

February 16, 2019 - February 24, 2019

From the 16th – 23rd February 2019 Shared Lines Collaborative will be hosting a series of events in Kaikōura for and with the community effected by the 2016 Earthquake. This week-long programme includes international artist in residence, Yasuaki Igarashi, workshops, participatory theatre, exhibitions, artist talks, a symposium, a street festival and much more.

1 – 21 February
  • The Shared Lines Team will be on the ground working alongside the community from early February onwards

  • Artist Yasuaki Igarashi will be hosting workshops for the local community to contribute to Kaikōura’s own large scale public artwork, Sora- Ami (Knitting the Sky)

Saturday 16 February

  • Official opening of the Shared Lines Art Exhibition with artist talks at the Kaikōura Memorial Hall. The Exhibition will remain open for the duration of the week-long programme

Sunday 17 February

  • A pop-up surprise street spectacle

  • Documentary Photography Workshops with leading Photographer Dan Kerins 

  • Cyanotype Workshop 1: Where Arts meets Alchemy with Susie Baker 

Monday 18 February

  • Treasure Hunt Walking Tour of all our secret locations

  • Cyanotype Workshop 2: Where Arts meets Alchemy with Susie Baker 

Tuesday 19 February

  • Artist Audrey Baldwin‘s, SNOOD workshop- this one’s for the kids – a warm macrame safe space to make and discuss aspirations for the future

  • Symposium night at the Kaikōura Museum

Wednesday 20 February

  • Audrey Baldwin‘s, SNOOD workshop- time for the adults to join in – grow the macrame safe space to make and discuss aspirations for the future

  • Poetry Reading and SLAM Poetry Night

Thursday 21 February

  • Jason Muir’s, Kaikoura Kutz – who will be the lucky recipient of a public haircut with a film crew on hand?

  • Arts Themed Quiz Night

Friday 22 February

  • Performing Arts Evening featuring the Art collective Fantasing among others at the Kaikōura Memorial Hall as part of the Shared Lines Art Exhibition 

Saturday 23 February

  • Festival and Street Party from 3pm onwards, including:

    • Binge Culture’s Award winning participatory show, Whales

    • Community entertainment Stage 

    • Pie in Sky’s LED lit Bicycle Parade

    • Launch and blessing of Sora-Ami

    • Night Market

    • Night Stage full of surprises
